In 2019, Oslo adopted a new “zero emission” policy to curb the pollution traditionally belched out by big construction machinery at the city’s many work sites. Electric excavators, saws and other plug-in equipment is now on the job, alongside traditional machinery designed to use diesel but now refitted with batteries.

On October 19, 2020, Norway issued its first new passports to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ine Eriksen Søreide, and the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Monica Mæland. The decision to create a new version of the passport was mainly to increase its security elements, making it more difficult to forge.

Welcome to April, and with it, a return of many of the activities we so dearly love at the Sons of Norway! As you consider your expanding options for activities here at Kringen Klub, there is perhaps one that might be to your liking, at least if what you’re liking is torsk.

As restrictions loosen up, Kringen Lodge gets busier. We are pleased our lunch and Tuesday night socials are on the uptick; several volunteers feel comfortable coming back in to help; Torsk Club will start again on the fourth Thursday in April, and music will be returning to Troll bar on Thursday nights.
One of the things we like to look for when we are at our Sons of Norway building is the mural and carved trolls that surround us in the lounge. Arvid Kristoffersen is the artist who painted the murals on the 90 feet of walls, then added more than 20 intricately carved, large trolls.
In my mind’s eye, I see a picture of two yoked oxen pulling a single blade plow to break the prairie sod. They work together to complete a difficult task. Our local Sons of Norway work moves forward with a Kringen team: The Lodge and the Club. Together they provide strength to turn vision into reality.
When Princess Märtha Louise of Norway was born in 1971, women were barred from ascending the throne of Norway. Her brother, Crown Prince Haakon, was born 2 years later and would eventually become next in line to the throne.
